Creation

The editor

A timeline editor inside Creation that Mori edits with you: tracks, trims, keyframes, effects, captions timed from the speech, music under the voice, and exports for every platform, all on your computer.

Where it is and what it holds

Open Creation in the sidebar and choose the Editor tab. The window has four parts: the Media bin on the left, the preview in the middle, the inspector on the right, and the timeline across the bottom, with one Export button.

Drop clips, sound or pictures onto the bin or straight onto the timeline. The timeline starts with video, sound and title tracks, and Add a track adds as many more as you need, including an effects track. The project saves as you work, and the header says Saving, Saved or Not saved yet.

What you see is what exports: the preview is drawn by the same engine that renders the file, frame for frame, so a cut that looks right in the preview is the cut you get.

Editing by hand

  • Drag a clip to move it and drag an edge to trim it. Edges snap to each other and to the playhead.
  • Space plays and pauses, S splits at the playhead, Delete removes, the arrow keys step one frame, and Cmd+Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows) undoes.
  • The inspector sets where a clip starts and ends, its speed, its volume, a fade in and a fade out, and how it comes in: a cut, dissolve, fade through black, slide, zoom, whip pan or flash.
  • Picture settings place it Across, Down, Size, Opacity and Turn, each with keyframes and easing, plus a blend mode (normal, add, screen, multiply, overlay, soft light and the rest).
  • Title clips take your words, a place (top, middle, bottom or a lower third), a colour and a size.

Project settings set the frame size and frames a second for the whole edit.

Effects

Add an effect on any clip, or on an effects track so it covers everything under it. The effects are Colour grade, Look, Levels, Tint, Fill, Invert, Threshold, Blur, Directional blur, Glow, Vignette, Grain, Colour split and Posterize time, plus a LUT from a .cube file you choose.

Under the hood the project is a composition in the style of After Effects: layers with keyframes and easing, effects, blend modes, masks, mattes, a 3D camera and nested compositions. That is why a project can travel to After Effects intact (see below).

Mori edits it too

Press Ask Mori and the open project goes to her, in a thread beside the editor. Ask in plain words: "cut the silences", "make it vertical for Reels", "captions in bold", "warm it up and add music under the voice". Her changes land in the same open project and show live, so you can keep editing by hand between her passes.

The logic: before she cuts, she measures. A first pass reads the video's length, size, frame rate, sound, where it goes silent, where the scenes change and how loud it is, so "cut the boring parts" is a measurement, not a guess. A pause counts as a silence when it lasts longer than 0.6 seconds.

After every render she checks the file before she calls it done: its length, its size, that it has sound, its loudness, that there are no black frames, and a few frames looked at with her own eyes. If a check fails she fixes the edit and renders again.

Cut to a reference

Give her a video you like and your own clips, and say "edit these like this". In the bin, Cut like a reference takes the reference, and Cut my clips to it builds the edit.

What makes an edit feel like another is mostly measurable, so the reference is read, never guessed:

  • The cuts: the reference's scene changes are found frame by frame, so your shot lengths are its shot lengths, in order.
  • The words: a few frames are looked at to read how its titles look: where they sit, their case, colour and size, and whether they are on a box.
  • The plan: your clips are laid on those shot lengths in turn, each one moving on through its own footage, so nothing repeats until a clip runs out.

Captions with real timings

Captions take their timing from a speech model that heard the audio and said when each word was spoken. They are never spread evenly across a clip from a plain transcript, because made up timings drift by a second inside a sentence and read as broken.

The routes run free first:

  • whisper on your computer, free and private (fast on Apple silicon);
  • the whisper command line, also on your computer, slower;
  • a hosted speech model through OpenRouter on your key, which costs a fraction of a cent a minute;
  • OpenAI's whisper on your OpenAI key.

Say the audio is private and only the two local routes are used. Captions come in classic, bold or karaoke styles, and can also be written out as SRT, VTT or ASS files instead of burned in. Long audio is split inside its silences so no word is cut in half.

Sound

Each clip has its own volume and fades, and sound clips live on their own tracks. Ask for music and it is ducked under the voice, so speech stays clear. Exports for social are brought to -14 LUFS, the loudness TikTok, Reels, Shorts and YouTube expect, so your video is not turned down or drowned out next to others.

Voiceovers, sound effects and music can be made in Creation (see Video and Creation) and dropped onto the timeline.

Export

Export writes:

  • MP4 (H.264) or MP4 (H.265);
  • TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, at 1080 by 1920 and 30 frames a second, with each platform's length limit;
  • YouTube 1080p and Square 1080;
  • WebM (VP9);
  • ProRes for editing, or ProRes 4444 that keeps transparency, for After Effects, Premiere and Resolve;
  • GIF.

Reframing to 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 can fill the new frame, fit inside it, or fit over a blurred copy of itself, so nothing important is cropped by surprise.

Carry on in Premiere or After Effects

  • Premiere, Final Cut and Resolve: the timeline exports as an edit file those apps open, with your cuts in place, so a rough cut made with Mori can be finished in the app you know.
  • After Effects: the project writes one script that rebuilds the same composition in After Effects: every layer, its in and out points, keyframes with their easing, masks, mattes, blend modes, the effects stack as After Effects' own effects, and expressions. Run it from File, Scripts, Run Script File, or let Mori run it if After Effects is connected (see Creative apps).

What it costs

Editing, captions on your computer, measuring and exporting run on your machine and cost no credits. A plan counts video exports a month: Free 5, Plus 100, Pro 300, Studio 1,000 and Max 3,000, shared with renders from After Effects and the other Adobe apps. An export reserves one when it starts and gives it back if it is stopped, fails or makes nothing, and a re-render Mori does to fix her own check is never counted twice. Measuring a video, caption files and timeline files are not exports.

At the ceiling, Mori says how many are left, when they come back, and what the next plan includes. Making new footage with a video model is a separate cost, shown before you spend it (see Video).
